So, as you have probably already noticed, I just got a blog. Don't get too excited, though, it will be occupied mostly by cycling stuff.
Like the details about my disappointing race this weekend. The Kansas State Road Race championships were today, and they didn't go as planned for me. I drove down with Matt Landen and Ian Gray, two bitchingly fast 2s who ride for Kaos. I left Omaha at 3:30am to get to Manhattan, KS on time, and in the course of this hectic activity, I left my front wheel in the back of my car. So I had to race with a 105/Mavic Open Pro training wheel Ian loaned me, which was really f'ing heavy.
I learned a few valuable lessons today: 1. Remember your wheels. 2. You might want to take a look at the course before you ride it so you don't go sailing blind through the corners the way I did. 3. Oh, and you might also want to check out the elevation profile so you don't get ambushed by the hills like I did. 4. You should maybe know where the finish line is, which I didn't do. 5. Don't go for a tough-ish 40 mile ride the night before the race.
So I had like 12 strikes against me going into this race, and I bonked pretty hard in the last few miles, which led to a disappointing 5th place. Which is still good, but...I should have ripped the legs off everyone in that field. Next time.
In other next, Ian and Matt finished 1-2 in their 104-mile painfest, riding over 65 of those miles on a duo breakaway. They finished about 10 minutes in front of the third place finisher, who finished about 5 minutes in front of the pack. Jesus.
